Tamar

Featuring Tamar

The Story

Tamar entered Judah's family through marriage, but after losing her husband she was left vulnerable and waiting for justice. Judah promised that she would be cared for in the family line, yet the promise was delayed again and again. Tamar realized that she had been forgotten, so she took a bold and risky step to seek what had been denied to her. Later, when Judah was ready to condemn her, Tamar showed the items he had left with her and proved the truth. Judah then admitted that he had not done what was right. In time Tamar gave birth to twins, Perez and Zerah, and her place in the family line was secured. Her story is unusual and tense, yet it shows that God can work even through painful human failures to continue His larger plan.

Moral of the Story

God can use unexpected people and situations to fulfill His plans, and sometimes courage and faith are needed to make things right.
