Samuel

Samuel was born in answer to Hannah's prayer and grew up serving near the tabernacle under Eli's care. One quiet night, while the lamp of God was still burning, Samuel heard his name called and ran to Eli. After this happened several times, Eli understood that the Lord was speaking and told Samuel how to answer. From then on Samuel listened closely to God and became a trusted prophet in Israel. As he grew older, he judged the people, called them back from idols, and helped lead them in repentance. God also used Samuel to anoint both Saul and David, shaping the future of the nation. Samuel's life shows what can happen when a child learns early to say yes to God's voice.
