Card #49
Mordecai & Haman
Featuring Mordecai & Haman
The Story
Mordecai was a Jew living in the Persian capital, where he cared for his young cousin Esther and served faithfully near the king's gate. Haman, a proud official, became furious when Mordecai would not bow to him and decided to destroy not only Mordecai but all the Jewish people. A death sentence was planned, and sorrow spread through the city while Mordecai put on sackcloth and cried out. He urged Esther to act, believing that she might have come to the kingdom for such a time as this. Meanwhile Haman built gallows for Mordecai, but God began reversing the story in quiet ways, even through the king's sleepless night. Haman was exposed and judged, while Mordecai was honored and lifted up. Their story shows that evil plots cannot outrun God's justice.
Moral of the Story
Standing up for what is right and trusting God can bring justice, even when others try to harm us.
