Jephthah & His Daughter

Featuring Jephthah & his daughter

The Story

Jephthah was a strong warrior who had once been pushed away, yet the elders of Gilead later asked him to lead them into battle. Before the fighting, Jephthah made a rash vow to the Lord, promising something he should not have promised. God gave him victory over the Ammonites, and he returned home with the sounds of celebration in his ears. But the first one to come out to greet him was his only daughter, dancing with joy. The moment that should have been full of happiness became heavy with sorrow because of Jephthah's careless words. His daughter responded with remarkable courage, and Jephthah learned how serious vows can be. Their story is a sober warning to speak carefully before God.

Moral of the Story

Keeping our promises, especially to God, is very important, even when it's difficult.
