Gideon
Featuring Gideon
The Story
Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress, hiding from the Midianites, when the angel of the Lord called him a mighty warrior. Gideon did not feel brave at all, so God patiently gave him signs and reassurance. Fire rose from the rock when Gideon brought an offering, and later the fleece he laid out was wet with dew when the ground was dry, and then dry when the ground was wet. Even after that, God reduced Gideon's army from thousands to just three hundred so Israel would know the victory came from Him. In the night the men blew trumpets, broke jars, and held up torches, and confusion swept through the enemy camp. Gideon learned that God's strength can work powerfully through people who feel weak and unsure.
