Elijah

Elijah suddenly appeared in Israel during a dark time, announcing that there would be no rain except at God's word. During the drought God hid him by the brook Cherith, where ravens brought him bread and meat morning and evening. Later Elijah stayed with a widow whose jar of flour and jug of oil did not run out, and through him God even restored her son to life. When the time came, Elijah stood on Mount Carmel against the prophets of Baal and called on the Lord before a watching crowd. Fire fell from heaven and consumed the sacrifice, proving that the Lord alone is God. After great victory, Elijah also knew fear and weariness, and God met him again in a gentle whisper. His story shows both bold faith and the tender care God gives to tired servants.
