Eli
Featuring Eli
The Story
Eli served as priest at the tabernacle and was already old when Hannah came weeping to pray for a son. At first he misunderstood her tears, but once he knew she was pouring out her heart to God, he blessed her kindly. Eli also guided young Samuel, helping him understand that the voice calling in the night was the Lord. Yet Eli's own sons acted wickedly in the house of God, and though Eli rebuked them, he did not restrain them firmly. Judgment came just as God had warned: Israel lost a battle, the ark was taken, and Eli heard the terrible news at the gate. He fell backward and died, grieving the disaster. Eli's life blends gentleness and weakness, reminding us that spiritual responsibility must be carried with courage as well as kindness.
Moral of the Story
We must honor God with our actions and teach others to do the same, as disobedience has consequences.
