Card #36
Abigail
Featuring Abigail
The Story
Abigail was married to Nabal, a rich man whose foolishness created danger for everyone in his house. When David's men asked for food after protecting Nabal's shepherds, Nabal answered harshly and insulted them. Abigail quickly gathered bread, grain, raisins, and other supplies, then rode out to meet David before violence could begin. Dust rose beneath the donkey's feet as she hurried toward a very angry man. With wise and humble words she calmed David and reminded him to trust God instead of taking revenge with his own hands. David listened, blessed her discernment, and turned away from bloodshed. Abigail's story shows how wisdom, courage, and gentle speech can stop disaster.
